The nurse administrator is responsible for creating an environment that fosters the nursing staff to be accountable for their own practice, to utilize critical thinking, and to participate in decisions affecting nursing and patient care. Establishing such an environment requires relationships, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, and, most of all, the ability to communicate effectively. This module looks at how serving as a catalyst and role model, the perioperative manager provides leadership and direction in concurrence with the organization's mission and values. Through effective communication, the manager fosters interdisciplinary and collaborative relationships and facilitates positive conflict resolution.
